Job DescriptionI work within the commercial property team in Business Enterprise and deal with the Office and Retail books. My role includes managing a book of policies, arranging renewals, conducting reviews of insurances with clients, selling add-on products and providing excellent customer service. I have also had the opportunity to visit an insurer in Bristol with my manager to discuss a new scheme! My job is both challenging and rewarding. We are expected to meet and exceed targets and work as a team in order to do this. The insurance industry is a busy and competitive environment so days in the office are rarely quiet! Highlights of my time at Higos so far have included passing my exams, being given the responsibility of managing a scheme and the Higos Christmas party in Bournemouth! If you are competitive, hard working and up for a challenge I would definitely recommend applying for the scheme!
TrainingOur initial training took approximately 4 weeks. During this time we were introduced to the many different types of insurances within the commercial sector many of which I had never even heard of, this training was intense but also fun and interactive. We had visits from representatives from several insurers, this was a brilliant opportunity to begin building relationships and ask questions about their products that we are now expected to sell. We received a large amount of on the job training from our colleagues which was useful to see exactly what would be expected from us. During this part of our training we were also shown how to use the underwriting tools on the computers. Within my first 4 months in Higos I passed 3 exams and now have my certificate in insurance. Graduates are expected to self study the majority of the text for these exams however the company is filled with helpful and experienced staff so help is always available when needed. I am now beginning my Diploma and will take my first exam towards this in April 2013. Training never stops at Higos and there is a real focus on career development. There is always the opportunity to request training for products that you have not dealt with or refresher training for areas that you may have forgotten!

Job DescriptionI started at Higos in June 2013 after spotting a job advert for the Higos Graduate Scheme in the local newspaper. I was delighted when I was told I one of 5 graduates chosen to enrol onto the scheme. After a month of intense but fun training, I was placed within the commercial property team, where I now work advising clients on their retail insurance.
TrainingThe opportunities within Higos are fantastic – I have already taken 3 exams and gained my first qualification which is the Certificate in Insurance. I am currently studying for my next exam which is part of the Diploma in Insurance. Not only does the exam material cover important information that means I can carry out my job better, but qualifications are linked to pay which is another benefit of the job! I really enjoy my work here at Higos – I don’t see it as just a job but the start of a long and hopefully prosperous career!
BackgroundMy degree is in Chemistry and I had no background or experience in insurance, but the training was so thorough that this was not a problem, as we were taught everything we needed to know to begin as trainees in the commercial underwriting team.

Job DescriptionI was one of eleven trainees who joined Higos in June 2013. We started out with a three week induction which included meeting the Directors, learning the key principles of insurance and understanding the ethos of the Company. After three weeks I was excited to begin my new role within the Specialist Property Team, focusing on Let Properties for landlords. This was based in Somerton where everyone was friendly and welcoming. Whilst working in this department I learnt how to write renewals, take payments from clients, general administration and took enquires from clients regarding their insurance. I now work in the Non Standard Team where I assist branches in retrieving quotes for clients who have been experienced flooding, subsidence and other complex issues with their properties.
TrainingWithin 2 months I passed my first Insurance exam IF1. After seven months, I am now working towards IF5 which will complete my Certificate in Insurance. I hope to progress towards the Diploma in the next year and I am eager to continue gaining knowledge and experience on my Higos journey.
BackgroundI had no previous knowledge or experience in the insurance industry. I gained nine GCSE’s at school and became interested in working for Higos because of the excellent opportunities to progress within the Company and build a career.

Job DescriptionI joined Higos in August 2013. My main job role within Higos at present is dealing with policy renewals and business retention within the branch. As I work within a branch there are lots of face-to-face interactions between staff and local clients. This is positive for both clients and staff alike, as it makes the relationship more personal and this kind of interaction is what I was looking for out of a job. In terms of the branch I work in, I could not have asked for a better office as all of the staff are friendly and welcoming and have made me feel like part of the team from the very start.
TrainingWithin the first 6 months of working at Higos I have learnt a lot, mainly through on-the-job training. I passed my first insurance exam (IF1) in December 2013 and I am now currently working towards the next exam (IF5) which will hopefully be undertaken and passed by the end of March 2014. There are opportunities for progression within the organisation which I will be looking for once I have completed my first set of exams such as moving into Commercial Insurance or going along the management route. The company is changing and growing all the time which again opens up more opportunities to progress.
BackgroundI am new to the insurance industry as this is my first job after completing a Business and Management degree in May 2013. Even though I had not had any previous Insurance experience at all, Higos made it easy for me to learn by providing the help and support needed through training sessions and also with colleagues being very willing to assist whilst learning on-the-job.

Job DescriptionI was originally employed in a Personal Lines role but due to my willingness to learn about Commercial Insurance I have been able to attend courses ranging including Motor Trade, Engineering and Directors & Officers, as well as undertaking First Aid and Fire Marshal training.
TrainingThe company has a real passion for career development. After six months of employment I had attained my Certificate in Insurance which was fully supported and funded by the company and I am already working towards the Diploma in Insurance which I am aiming to complete within the next year. I have also attended a series of management courses aimed at developing future managers. The training I have been given is second to none and has far surpassed anything I have experienced whilst working for other brokers and major insurers.
BackgroundI joined Higos in June 2012, as I was unhappy with the lack of career progression at a national insurance broker I was working for. After my interview it was clear how many opportunities were available to me and how the whole company ethos was centred on training, progression and delivering the best service and advice to its clients.

Job DescriptionI am the Team Leader of the Non Standard Team and manage a team of six staff. This role involves coaching and auditing new and existing staff, supplying reports, answering queries from the Team and other areas of the business. I also work with insurers on schemes. I manage the daily lead allocation within my department and ensure the team achieve their objectives set out in our Key Performance Indicators. I enjoy working with staff at all levels within Higos.
TrainingHigos is a pleasant place to work, which provides opportunities for people who wish to progress within the business and gain qualifications. I am currently working towards attaining the Diploma in Insurance. I know of no other Company that invests in their staff as well as Higos do. I would recommend Higos as a place to work for driven individuals and have thoroughly enjoyed my eight years here.
BackgroundI joined Higos in 2005 with no prior knowledge or experience in insurance. I was educated at St Dunstan’s Secondary school and went on study Media, Business Studies and Sociology at Strode College. When applying for this job it was important to me that there were career progression opportunities and the ability to further myself with exams and training.

Job DescriptionI have now worked for Higos for 8 years and manage the Business Enterprise department of 20 staff. My department manage 10,000 Commercial clients and act as a training department for those entering the insurance industry, which means my job is very diverse and extremely rewarding.
TrainingHigos are dedicated to helping staff reach their full potential and since joining Higos the training opportunities have been endless. I have studied numerous BIBA courses, management courses, compliance courses and product training. In addition to this Higos are very committed to staff qualifications and have assisted me in passing the following qualifications: IF1, IF2, IF5 (Certificate in Insurance), P10, 745 and P92. I am currently studying P93 and will continue with my exams until I have my ACII qualification. Higos provide people with careers and the opportunities are endless.
BackgroundWhen I joined Higos I had no previous insurance experience. I studied at Bruton School for Girls where I obtained my GCSE’s. This was followed by two years at Sexey’s School Bruton; which I left with A Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Sociology. Upon finishing my A Levels I had earned a place at Southampton University where I was going to study Nursing. I had taken a year out before university and after a six month job as a Care Assistant in a local nursing home I decided to choose a different career path.

Job DescriptionI have now been with Higos for three years and in that time I have already received some very exciting and challenging opportunities. Originally appointed as a Branch Manager, I was very quickly offered the opportunity to take on a second branch and I now look after three high street branches. Along the way I have received an enormous amount of support and guidance from my peers.
TrainingI am currently working towards obtaining my Diploma in Insurance for which I attend regular training sessions in our Underwriting Centre in Somerton. I have also attended a number of management training courses which have been a huge help in developing my management skills.
BackgroundHaving worked in the insurance industry for over ten years I was already fully aware of Higos’ great reputation for training and developing members of staff, it was this investment in people that helped me to make the decision to join Higos to further my career.
