Higos Announces Support for WheelPowerTuesday 1st September 2009
Higos supports Charity to help young disabled people achieve sporting dreams
Higos Insurance Services has thrown its support behind national charity WheelPower to help more people with disabilities achieve their sporting dreams.
Higos will provide WheelPower with £5,000 each year for the next three years, with the funds going directly to provide sporting opportunities and training for young and newly disabled people.
WheelPower is aiming to help 2012 disabled athletes by 2012 and use the power of the Paralympic Games in London to inspire young and newly disabled people to lead healthy active lives.
The cheque was accepted by wheelchair tennis player Shaun Regan, of Bridgwater, whose sporting success has included representing Great Britain at three World Team Cup events, with the help of WheelPower.
Ian Gosden, managing director of Higos Insurance Services, said: "Higos is delighted to support WheelPower, enabling people like Shaun to take part in sport. We fully support WheelPower’s aim of increasing participation in disabled sports and wish them every success with their campaign."
Martin McElhatton, chief executive of WheelPower, said: "WheelPower is delighted to receive such a wonderful, generous contribution from Higos.
"Sport makes a tremendous difference to people’s lives after an accident, people like Shaun, who benefit both physically and psychologically from taking part in sport. For young people with a disability sport can provide physical fitness, confidence and lead to greater independence."
