Higos Supports Special Needs Activity ProjectThursday 12th July 2012
Higos Insurance Services is delighted to support Special Needs Activity Project, a Bridgwater based charity who help and support children and young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Alan Clarke, Branch Manager of Higos’ Bridgwater branch, presented a cheque for £300 to Sean Carter, Spokesperson for SNAP on Thursday 5th July, 2012 outside the Higos Bridgwater branch.
SNAP helps approximately 25 families in the Bridgwater area who have disabled children/young adults in their care; disabilities include autism and cerebral palsy. The youngest child who attends is 12 years old with ages ranging up to adults in their thirties.
The organisation aims to provide activities for the children and young adults as well as providing a social aspect for the parents and gives time to other siblings who may not always get as much attention. SNAP provides a support network for the families and gives parents a break from 24 hour care responsibilities.
SNAP has been running for 25 years and some of the original parents are still bringing their children to the group. The organisation provides a chance for the children and their families to go on day trips to places such as Longleat, or on weekends away, or on holidays abroad; something which many of the children would not have a chance to do without the support and funding from SNAP due to their parents looking after them 24/7 and not being able to work. The most recent holiday saw 51 people going to Lanzarote.
There are a few trips planned in the future and the money Higos has donated will go towards a trip to the Hippodrome theatre in Bristol.
If you’d like further information on the group please contact them on 01278 446 329.
