Higos Supports PROMISEworksWednesday 3rd July 2013
Higos Insurance Services is delighted to support PROMISEworks, a Somerset county wide mentoring service for young people and children aged between 4 and 21 years. The programme targets the most disaffected, disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in Somerset.
Ian Gosden, Higos Managing Director, recently presented a cheque to Steve Clark and Ali Hart, fundraisers for PROMISEworks.
PROMISEworks supports a long term Somerset volunteer programme for the most vulnerable and at risk children and young people aged between 4 and 21 years. These include children in care, those who have suffered abuse and rejection and children with disabilities. The charity do this by funding the expenses of adult volunteer mentors who befriend the children by making long term commitments to each relationship (always a minimum of two years and an average of 3-4 years); this continuity is essential for children who have suffered rejection and who have very poor opinions of themselves. All volunteer mentors are trained, professionally supported and subject to an intense vetting and approval process.
Ian Gosden commented “We are delighted to support PROMISEworks, a local charity supporting the young people of Somerset. PROMISEworks rely on fundraising to operate and we are pleased to be able to help.”
Ali Hart commented "We appreciate the generous donation from Higos Insurance Services. We are currently planning the first ever PROMISEworks holiday, which will allow for 45 young people to go camping; something many of them will have never experienced before. We plan to use the donation to buy things for the weekend which the young people can keep such as torches and sleeping bags".
