Higos supports a new community centreMonday 10th November 2014
Higos Insurance Services is delighted to support the Parish Church of St Andrew, Blagdon.
Several years ago the Church began to explore the possibility of facilities being installed which would allow the Church to be opened up for community use. With no community centre, such as a village hall and an increasingly ageing population in the village with limited bus services and no access to a car, the Church started to notice isolation problems.
In 2013 the first phase of converting the back of the church into a village hall size space took place; costing £170,000 and installing a meeting room and bathroom. The money for this project was raised by village fundraising, donations and grants.
During 2014, the second phase of installing a small kitchen and a fully accessible bathroom has been taking place.
Colin Parfitt, Churchwarden commented “thank you to Higos Insurance Services for your most generous donation of £250 towards our costs in the provision of facilities within the church to allow the proper use of the building for community use. The space and facilities are being well used, by young parents and toddlers, a weekly afternoon of table games for the elderly and a new venture, WiFi Wednesday which has proved very popular with some isolated folk in our village, helping them to master their computers and phones. Your donation has been of great help.”
