Higos Insurance Services is delighted to support the Cots for Tots Appeal, which raises funds to support the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol and Cots for Tots House, a home-from-home 12-bedroom family accommodation facility for parents of sick and premature babies.
Cots for Tots House is located immediately opposite St Michael’s Hospital and provides free accommodation for families of sick and premature babies. This allows parents to stay close to their babies at what is an extremely difficult time for the whole family. The house costs on average £300 a day to run and is completely funded by the Cots for Tots Appeal. To date, it has provided accommodation for nearly 1,000 families, who stay from a few days to as long as six months and who come from all over Bristol, the South West, and even further afield for their babies’ treatment.
The Cots for Tots Appeal was brought to the attention of the Higos Community Fund by Jonathan Beck, an Insurance Adviser who works in the Higos Bridgwater branch. Jonathan and his wife Hayley stayed in Cots for Tots House for two months while their daughter Ellie was receiving treatment at St Michael’s Hospital.
The Higos Community Fund has donated £1,000 to the Cots for Tots Appeal. Jonathan, Hayley and Ellie visited Cots for Tots House with Flick Franks, also from Higos Insurance, to meet some of the charity’s team, and present them with a cheque.
Helen Haskell, Corporate Partnerships Manager, the Cots for Tots Appeal commented, “We were delighted to see Jonathan and Hayley again after their stay at Cots for Tots House last year, and to see Ellie doing so well. It costs £100,000 a year to keep Cots for Tots House open to support families like Jonathan and Hayley; a cost we wouldn’t be able to provide without the support of our amazing fundraisers. We are so grateful to Jonathan for nominating us to receive this very generous donation, which will support other critically-ill babies receiving treatment at the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael’s Hospital, as well as making sure their families can stay nearby for as long as they need to at Cots for Tots House.”
Jonathan Beck, Higos Insurance Adviser commented, “Thanks to the Cots for Tots Appeal we were able to stay close to our daughter while she was recovering at hospital following a major operation. Without their help life would have been so much more difficult during such a traumatic time. So I really want to thank them for providing such fantastic support to us and other families around us. I also want to thank Higos for being so generous with this donation. I know that this is going towards a great cause.”
Flick Franks of the Higos Community Fund added “We are thrilled to support the Cots for Tots Appeal. It was wonderful to see the house and the support they provide. We hope this donation helps many more families across the South West just like Jonathan, Hayley and Ellie.”
