Higos Charity & Community Project

Making a difference is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’re committed to making a positive difference in our local communities, where we each live and work; making it core to our culture, values and responsibility as a trusted inclusive business.

Over the years we’ve donated £1,000's to organisations including St Margaret's Somerset Hospice, Ups and Downs Southwest, Weston Hospice Care and The Swans of Wells. Our branch teams have also raised money for several national charities including Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie Care, BBC Children in Need, The Prince's Trust and Jessie May and Mind in Somerset. It's not just about the donations - it's about the impact these contributions have had on the lives of those we've supported.

Each year, our branch teams and our Charity Committee get together to choose a Charity Partner to work closely with for two years. Throughout 2023 to 2025 our charity partner is Youth Adventure Trust (YAT).  The charity gives young people the ability to build resilience, develop confidence and learn skills that will last a lifetime through outdoor adventure and one to one support.

Our partnership with Youth Adventure Trust

This year, we're proud to announce our partnership with The Youth Adventure Trust (YAT). Their aim is to give vulnerable young people the opportunity to fulfil their potential, by giving them the skills and confidence to be able to lead positive lives in the future.

At Higos, we're committed to supporting our new partner charity by participating in a calendar of events for the year ahead. We hope our new partnership will help with their mission and inspire others to help make a lasting improvement to the lives of vulnerable young people.

Higos Charity Committee

To support our charitable culture, we've established the Higos Charity Committee. This committee leads our charity and community activities and coordinates donations across the business, including a calendar of upcoming events. We've also identified a representative from each of our branch locations to coordinate local activity.

Company Volunteer Day

As a business, we encourage our staff to get involved in supporting the local community, charities and to be part of our charitable culture. That's why we've introduced a company volunteer day, which allows staff to use a paid day to support a local charity or community project of their choosing.

To further support our staff's volunteering efforts, we’ve set up ‘The Make a Difference’  fund. This fund will support purchasing materials that may be needed for volunteering days to support their chosen charity and community projects. We encourage our staff to support ‘The Make a Difference’ fund by also contributing £2 a month from their monthly pay packets. To make an even greater impact, Higos will match the staff donations pound for pound.

Through these initiatives, we hope to make a positive and lasting impact on the community, while also fostering a sense of social responsibility and teamwork among our staff.
