Are Your Clients Aware Of Their Unoccupied Property Conditions For COVID.

As the 3rd national lockdown prepares to come to an end and businesses can return as early as the 12th April, it’s important for your clients to be aware of their unoccupied property conditions. Each insurer will vary on their specific cover/ endorsements and there will be varied unoccupancy conditions that will still be required to be met so cover isn’t affected.

Some of these requirements may involve the following:

  • Premises are inspected internally at least once every 7 days, by or on behalf of the Insured.

  • The premises are secure at all times, by putting all fastenings and protections, including locking devices and any alarm protection, into full and effective operation.

  • The gas, water and electricity supplies, are turned off at the mains (except electricity needed to maintain any fire or intruder alarm systems, or water and heating systems for sprinklered premises)

  • If your client has an unoccupied commercial premises insurers may request for all trade refuse and waste materials are removed from the interior of the premises, with no accumulation of refuse or waste being allowed in the adjoining yards or spaces owned by the Insured.

After lockdown restrictions are lifted insurer wording/endorsement should return back to standard terms and conditions found in your clients policy wordings previously before. If your clients choose for any reason not to reopen their business premises once lockdown restrictions are lifted, please inform us. Our team are ready to help your clients with any queries they may have on their policy.
