Higos on Prestigious Business Award ShortlistFriday 30th October 2009

Higos Insurance Services has been shortlisted for the prestigious Growing Business Awards that recognise success among the UK’s small and medium-sized businesses.

The West Country-based insurance specialist has been selected in the ‘People and Performance’ category reflecting its long-standing emphasis on encouraging staff to attain high standards of professionalism. The company, which has rapidly grown to employ over 200 staff, is widely recognised in the industry for having among the most highly qualified employees.

Now in their 11th year, the awards – organised by the Confederation of British Industry and Real Business magazine – identify and honour those committed to innovation, expansion and customer excellence among the UK’s finest small and medium-sized businesses.

The judging panel includes high profile business names and entrepreneurs including Ryman chairman and ‘Dragon’ Theo Paphitis, Phone4U founder John Caudwell, and King of Shaves founder Will King. Winners will be announced at the Growing Business Awards ceremony in London on Thursday November 26th 2009.

Higos managing director Ian Gosden said: "It is a huge honour to have made it through to the final stage of this distinguished event.

"We strongly believe that our business success is dependent on having highly motivated and highly skilled employees who have the knowledge and confidence to do a great job for our customers and drive our growth.

"This commitment to staff development and training is at the heart of our business and is particularly important at a time when the insurance industry generally risks creating a knowledge vacuum by shedding thousands of experienced and qualified people."

Kate Pritchard, Managing Editor of Real Business magazine, said: "The energy and determination of this year’s Growing Business Awards candidates should fill us all with hope about Britain’s economic future.

"Their remarkable drive and abilities suggests that a new generation of small and mid-sized companies that will lead Britain’s recovery is emerging. What particularly struck us this year was how quickly a new business can change a marketplace. That fact should bring confidence to aspiring entrepreneurs."

The Growing Business Awards are supported by Coutts & Co, UKTI, Visa Europe, Bird & Bird and WorldSkills London 2012.
